Gas-Tanker Terror Scare Involved Hooker
NEW YORK (UPI) -- The driver of a gasoline tanker whose disappearance set off a nine-state terror alert Monday may have abandoned his truck after a rendezvous with a prostitute.
"Let's just say he used our vehicle in an unauthorized manner," Jim Cameron, safety director for the Maspeth, Queens-based Island Transportation Corp., told the New York Post.
The driver, who has not been identified, was fired Monday after a terror alert was issued from New York to Maryland warning the public to be on the lookout for a possible truck-bomb attack.
"We routinely put out counter-terrorism alerts. Once it was determined that the tanker had been found, the alert was called off," said New Jersey Office of Counter-Terrorism spokesman Roger Shatzkin.
"He just abandoned the truck and never came back," said Cameron. "We haven't seen him. He'll be getting a formal notice that he's been terminated."
