October 11:
1936 - CBS Radio debuts Professor Quiz, hosted by Dr. Craig Earl; contestants win cash for answering questions or for asking questions the professor can not answer.

1940 - Glenn Miller's Orchestra records Make Believe Ballroom Time for Bluebird Records; WNEW's Martin Block would use it as the theme song for his Make Believe Ballroom show.

1948 - NBC Radio debuts A Brighter Day, a soap opera about a pastor and his four children.

1937 - NBC's Blue Network debuts the detective series, Mr. Keen, Tracer Of Lost Persons, starring Bennett Kilpack with Jim Kelly as his assistant; it would run until 1955.

1969 - On WKNR in Boston, dj Russell Gibb and college student Tom Zarski spend two hours discussing supposed clues that point to Paul McCartney being dead.

1951 - After four years on the air, KWIK in Burbank changes call letters to KBLA; the station would later become KBBQ, then KROQ/am, then go dark.

1921 - KYW broadcasts the Chicago Grand Opera Company's production of Samson Et Delila from the Chicago Auditorium, the first in a year-long series of live opera broadcasts.

1926 - NBC launches its 24-station Red Network, named for the color used on AT&T's diagrams of the hookups; the Blue Network would begin two months later.
1929 - KFI owner Earle C. Anthony purchases KPLA-1000 and moves it to 1430 kHz; the station would become KECA, after Anthony's initials, and today is KABC-790.
1955 - KBUZ in Pomona changes call letters to KWOW; it had begun in 1947 as KPMO.
